Dr Samantha Muir – Concert & Workshop

Dr Samantha Muir is the first person in the world to complete a PhD (University of Surrey) on the ukulele. Building on her classical guitar background (ARCM) her arrangements and compositions define the ukulele as a contemporary classical instrument. Dr Muir also specialises in performing the unique 19th century repertoire of the machete de Braga – one of the forerunners on the ukulele from the Portuguese island of Madeira.

Concert

In this concert Dr Muir will play pieces from the Renaissance to modern day on the ukulele, the machete de Braga, the classical guitar and the 4-course guitar. She will also provide insights into the instruments and repertoire.

“Samantha Muir spearheads a growing movement to expand the classical ukulele repertoire.”
